Praggie The Foodie Hippo

Water is the essence of life and food goes mighty good with it. Something which is so close to the essence of life, no wait, let me write that in caps lock, THE ESSENCE OF LIFE, will sure as hell be pretty darn good. Everything about those tasty morsels get me going, be it the zesty flavors, the fiery aromas, the mix-the match, the blend and fuse of ingredients, the splash of seasoning, the dash of a tinge or that final garnish. My column is all about; you guessed it right, ‘The Secret Life of Hippos, just kidding, ‘Food & Wine’. I’ll be covering restaurants, the new menu on the line, world cuisine, food habits, food facts, food dreams and anything else that might have (or not) flew across your mind. Every (food) crumb has its day and with my column its everyday! They don’t call me the super Foodie Hippo for nothing.

Pairing Wine with Food Matching food and wine seems like a complex equation, something most of us will never go into because fixing a spaceship and having a drink with the Martian seems much easier. Though there are rules, like there are rules in every aspect of life, which you must keep in mind, experimenting with different food –wine pairs is encouraged as well. If a particular food-wine pairing goes well, try it again. Exciting experimentations never hurt anyone.  Regional wines are paired with food in countries...

Potluck Party! Simply put, a potluck party is when all guests bring in food, and so there’s a nice variety of yum food around. People (and me too!) think this is one of the best party concepts around as it takes some pressure off the host. It’s a win –win situation for all. People meet up, there’s plenty of food around and the host isn’t as tired! One tip is to decide beforehand who will bring what type of food. You don’t want to end up with only salads at your party. Some people ask their guests to think...

While dreaming of food, it is important to break it down s much as you can, to get the correct meaning or one which makes the most sense to you. Was the food sweet, tasty or sour? Who cooked it? How much preparation time did it take? Did you acquire it easily? And lastly what kind of food did you dream of? Here we continue the list. • Dreaming of sandwich means a lot of stress is being put on you. It’s also a mark of being able...

Indian Wines How many of you have met self proclaimed wine experts and magical homemade sommeliers? I see all hands in the room way up. Yes I call 70 percent hands as all. The emphasis here is not even on their mysterious wine learning journey but how many Indian wines do they speak about out loud. *cue puzzling head spins. Indian wines you say? Now comes the interesting bit. Did you know that wine is being made in India for nearly a thousand years now? Indians have always been familiar with wine and...

Authentic comfort food

Scribbled by: Praggie - The Foodie Hippo | On: 9th Dec, 2009

Authentic comfort food God bless those who found a need in the comfort food sector in India and filled it up. I remember the time when I used to bite into a hard plastic chocolate donut; somewhat disappointed but happy thinking at least donuts are available here. Okay maybe that’s a little harsh but that’s how it was. We had pizza but that could only be so good. It was the same every time, no innovations, no changes. Comfort food, the fatty (or the low fat variety) cheesy, succulent, flavoury and scrumptious kind as I...

Food Dreams Interpretation Food dreams, they’re slurp, drool and yum! What can be better than eating food and dreaming about more food? Many believe food dreams have hidden meanings and underlying connotations. These differ from person to person, as it’s important to note the person’s perspective about food, different types of food, what he likes, dislikes, also it’s important to know if he’s dreaming of food cooked by a particular person and so on. The obvious meaning of food is pleasure and indulgence. Alternatively, a...
