Praggie The Foodie Hippo

Water is the essence of life and food goes mighty good with it. Something which is so close to the essence of life, no wait, let me write that in caps lock, THE ESSENCE OF LIFE, will sure as hell be pretty darn good. Everything about those tasty morsels get me going, be it the zesty flavors, the fiery aromas, the mix-the match, the blend and fuse of ingredients, the splash of seasoning, the dash of a tinge or that final garnish. My column is all about; you guessed it right, ‘The Secret Life of Hippos, just kidding, ‘Food & Wine’. I’ll be covering restaurants, the new menu on the line, world cuisine, food habits, food facts, food dreams and anything else that might have (or not) flew across your mind. Every (food) crumb has its day and with my column its everyday! They don’t call me the super Foodie Hippo for nothing.

Delights of Thai and Indonesian Cuisine at 24/7 at the Lalit To celebrate the nuances of Thai and Indonesian cuisine, The Lalit Hotel at Barakhamba had introduced the enticing Thai and Indonesian menu at their 24/7 Restaurant and Bar for 2 weeks starting from November 22. The special menu was served as buffet during lunch and dinner. I was all set for the gastronomical orgy and reached the venue accompanied by my friend. The moment we reached, we headed to the 24/7 restaurant. The décor is charming, most definitely. It also seemed in tune with the Thai...

Say(vour) Cheese Workshop by Chef Saby If there’s any product that deserves the number one spot on the podium for ‘wonder food’, it’s got to be cheese. It’s easy, no fuss, comes in a range of flavors/forms, can be applied to almost anything and can be beautifully altered. With so many types of cheeses around, not to mention our cluelessness about cheese recipes and the potential it has in cooking, chef Saby of Olive Bar & Kitchen shared information and showcased the easiness of cooking cheese recipes in a workshop organized by...

Voluptuous Italian Show me someone who doesn’t like Italian food and I’ll show you someone who’s missing out on a lot. Although choices about food are massively personal, Italian food shall always remain likable to about 72 percent of the population. Yes, that percentage just blends with this article. Italian cuisine goes all the way back to the 4th century BC! Even though India does not boast of, or is plunged into the complete list of Italian fare, the food served here is still great, whatever there is. ...

Indian cuisine abroad

Indian cuisine abroad For good ol’ beings, food is a common binding factor, a bridge and when ordering the same chow, a chance to exchange smiles and fall in love *note to self* - stop watching so many damn movies. When abroad, this seemingly tiny link is heightened because Indians meet other Indians ordering Indian food at Indian restaurants! Who would have thought eh? We do love to meet one of our own on alien lands. When this meet up is glossed out by the presence of food, it’s sheer bliss. Setting up an Indian...

Authentic world food in India Looks like the world wants to occupy a piece of India and this time India doesn’t seem to mind. All over ‘wild’ cuisine restaurants have been springing up. Now wild because our home grown palates, more or less, isn't used to this world fare. Not to make this sound like a cliché but Indians now have awesome and massive choices when it comes to food. Now and more than ever before you can order rum-filled strawberry daiquiris or ‘mille fuille’ of cheese with Bolognese sauce. The list of authentic...

Liquor Liquor everywhere India sure has a booming liquor market, three hic’s to that. People love this tipsy liquid and its making its way from the dusty store shelves to our food. One can find liquor in chocolates, golgappas and even the innocent pastry and being in India, the opinions are obviously divided. India and liquor in food goes hand in hand with a thousand controversies around. Let’s move away from that though, that being a different and depressing topic. Liquor chocolates have been welcomed with happy...
