South Pune is primarily a business centre; it houses many sugar mills, food markets, export houses, and ordinance factories. Purandhar, the former capital of Marathas is also located here, which makes this place popular amongst tourists. This region makes a great contribution in terms of exports and internal supply of food grains. South Pune also has a training center for cadets corps of Indian Army.
