Gunpowder is a roof-top restaurant at the Hauz Khas Village. It's popular because of the extensive non-vegetarian South Indian offerings it has and because it is celeb-frequented. You will easily spot a singer, artist or designer while dining here. It is owned by Satish Warrier, a journalist-turned-chef. Gunpowder is located on the third floor of an ordinary looking house in one of the alleys of Hauz Khas Village. It is quite a task to walk up without any elevator. It has few tables and chairs on the outdoor and others inside. It overlooks the Hauz Khas Lake/Jheel and on a winter afternoon, it could be very romantic to lunch here. The menu like the aroma speaks only non-vegetarian fare and very less choice for the vegetarian appetite. The regular Dosas, Idlis, Uttampas are given a pass here. They serve unique egg dishes, sea food, tamarind rice, mutton curry, fried fish, appams and vegetables. The menu is generally a print out here because they change the items therein every month. The food you may like or you may not. If you are up for some experimentation, you must visit here. Pass Gunpowder if you're pure vegetarian and can't stand the smell of eggs, fish and sea food. Thumbs up for the ambiance and the rooftop seating that overlooks the beautiful lake. Gunpowder is shut on Mondays and from 3 PM to 7 PM daily. Opens only for lunch and dinner. If you're visiting here, make prior reservation even on weekdays else you will have to definitely wait to be seated.
