Civil Lines is credited as being one of the rapidly blooming districts in New Delhi and is an extremely posh area. The name Civil Lines was given by the British rulers. During their regime, Delhi was divided into different areas. The zone where civilians were located was titled Civil Lines. The place has met with many facelifts and today it comprises of areas namely Rajpur Road, Kamla Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Sham Nath Marg, Police Lines, Shankracharya Marg, Raj Narain Road, Maharaja Lal Lane, Under Hill Road, and Under Hill Lane. 

The historical highlights in the vicinity include Metcalfe House, Ashokan Pillar, Coronation Pillar, Mutiny Memorial, Shalimar Bagh, Roshanara Bagh, Qudsia Bagh, Hindu Rao's House, Mutiny Memorial, Viceregal Lodge, Delhi Ridge amongst others. They all offer a delightful flashback to the country’s eventful history. Majnu Ka Tila, Shah Alam's Memorial and Pir Ghaib are also major attractions of the place. 

In close proximity to Civil Lines is the North Campus of the University of Delhi. Hence, in close by areas there are various students living on rent and in PGs. The Mukherjee Nagar close by is famous for its Batra Cinema and IAS Coaching. Kingsway Camp and Model Town are good for shopping. Kingsway Camp has a very crowded and congested market with essentials whereas at Model Town and Kamla Nagar Market you find majority of brands and good shops. They are frequently flocked by students for their close proximity to North Campus. 

There are a good number of restaurants and places of hangout at Civil Lines and close by areas. A few good hotels can also be found at Civil Lines. Civil Lines is still a developing district. It is overall a very peaceful locality and a quaint corner of Delhi.
