Fast and Furious 5 is the extension of nonstop action we have seen in its previous instalments. The film lacks any emotional connection, but it ranks high in its action quotient and of course in its plot, which has a good number of turns and twists. Complete with some timely-put action sequences, thoughtful camera work and improved editing, the flick is watchable, but do not overload it with high expectations.
Former cop Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and a car thief Mia (Jordana Brewster) join together to rescue Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) from police custody. Mia is the sister of Dominic (Dom) and she is being loved by Brian. Soon police declares all three wanted. Brian and Mia flee to Rio de Janeiro where they are offered a daring job by Vince (Matt Schulze). The job is to rob expensive cars from a moving train.
Dom clubs Mia and Brian on their mission, which also includes Vince and some local thieves. But then a bloody battle rocks the stage with the arrival of cops. Vince and Mia leave in the cars. Dom and Brian jump off the train, but are captured by the goons of Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida), a corrupt businessman. After a brief encounter with Reyes, the two succeed to escape and join Mia at their hiding place. This is when they find a hidden chip in Mia’s car. It contains much information on Reyes’ black money.
Soon Reyes launches an attack over the trio, but they somehow manage to give him a miss. Meanwhile, Mia informs that she is pregnant. While everyone is happy, they decide to do one last job so that they can gain their freedom for ever: To steal Reyes’ $100 million black money. Guessing danger, Reyes moves his money to a police station vault. This makes the task tougher for the trio. But they are firm enough to accomplish their task.
Rest of the story tells their encounter with problems while stealing the money. The script compliments the movie. The dialogues are fine, while the camera has been handled properly giving the film a brilliant touch. The editing of the action scenes are also done cleverly. But the performance of the actors is average. They do not make a deep connection emotionally, with the audience. Overall, Fast and Furious is a good entertainer if you like action movies.
