This is the most popular landmark of the city of Joy, should rather say Victoria Memorial is a synonym of Kolkata. I remember visiting this place every morning during my summer vacations when me and my cousin used to hit the place for learning driving, I am talking about the roads outside! They are the best, well-maintained roads of the city, offering you the smoothest ride, that’s precisely the reason why it is a crowd’s favourite for learning driving. The magnificent white Victoria Memorial looks splendid in the evening when the sun vanishes and the lights brighten up the entire region. Located in the heart of the city, the place overflows with crowd both old and young alike. Victoria Memorial was built in the memory of Queen Victoria, the late Queen of United Kingdom and Empress of India; it was designed by Sir William Emerson. The memorial sits in the middle of the sprawling, well manicured gardens and pathways and serves as a museum housing beautiful paintings, weapons, costumes etc. In the evening the place pulls crowd from all the corners of the city, the pleasant breeze flowing in the region add to its value. The dancing musical fountains in the lush green garden and the pheri walas selling the enticing stuff like super scrumptious puchkas ( paani puri), piping hot ghugni (matar) and spicy jhalmuri etc makes one come back to the place over and over again.
