Editor’s Note of Ordnance Club, Bow Bazar

In existence for over 100 years old, Ordnance Club at Hastings in Kolkata is one of the oldest and prestigious sports Clubs in the city. The membership and permission to use the club till 1947 was restricted to Indian Army Officers and troops, hence the outward appearance of the club and the wooden-floored Ball room gives an impression of an excellent heritage army club. The club is basically a sports club that facilitates its members to play badminton, billiards, snookers, squash, tennis, swimming, chess, and table tennis. Horse riding can also be arranged on members' request. Ordnance Club also has a banquet hall and a restaurant cum bar too. Entry to the club is restricted to its members only and charges a membership fee of Rs.15000 annually that renews year by year. Life membership is not offered here. The club remains open from 10 AM to 5 PM on each day except Tuesday.
