Editor’s Note of Chattbir Zoo, Zirakpur

Open for public since 1970s, Chhatbir Zoo is the one of the renowned zoo in Chandigarh which houses hundreds of different mammals, birds and reptiles. Also known as Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park, the zoological park acquaints and enriches you with knowledge about the exotic flora and fauna of our country. Chhatbir zoo has about 950 animals and birds belonging to about 85 species housed in about 100 enclosures. One of the major attraction at the zoo is the Royal Bengal Tiger.Visitors can take the sight of freely roaming tigers through their caged motor vehicle which carries them towards the tiger’s sanctuaries One can visit Chhatbir Zoo from 9 AM to 5 PM throughout the week except on Mondays with the nominal entrance fee of Rs. 15 for adults above the age of 12 years while Rs. 5 for children. One need to shell Rs. 250 for cars and jeeps while for other vehicle, Rs. 150 is to be paid.
