Editor’s Note of Baoli Sahib Gurudwara, Zirakpur

1.Sacred shrines and their majestic beliefs are some of the most fascinating facts for the people. Similar with Gurudwara Baoli Sahib which is situated on Zirakpur-Kalka highway in Chandigarh. The sacred shrine has eminent relationship with the sentiments of the Sikh community. There is a popular legend behind India' s one of the most famous Sikh Shrines. The legend goes with a descendant of Baba Gurditta Ji, who resided in the Dhakauli village near Zirakpur. Renowned for his meditation, meditator's fame reached to the ears of Guru Gobind Singh ji, the 10th Guru of the Sikh community who paid his visit to the worshiper. It is believed that the mediator asked Guru Gobind Singh ji to bring back to life the dead river and quench the thirst of the masses. For which Guru shot an arrow into the ground, from where a baoli spranged out. As the cycle of times flowed, the baoli was encircled with this sacred gurudwara, thus it was named after the baoli as Baoli Sahib Gurdwara. On every Amavasya, worshipers take dip into the holy water of the baoli. Throughout the week, the Gurudwara remains open from 24x7.
