Mohali is located towards the west of Chandigarh. It is a city (District in Punjab) bordered by Rupnagar District in the north. Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala in the south. The city along with Chandigarh and Panchkula form a part of the Chandigarh Tricity or Chandigarh Capital Region. Earlier, Mohali was a part of the Rupnagar District. Today, Mohali and Chandigarh are contiguous areas with only the boundary of Punjab and UT of Chandigarh dividing this area. Mohali comes under the jurisdiction of Punjab State.
Mohali is officially named after the eldest son of Guru Gobind Singh, Sahibzada Ajit Singh (SAS Nagar, or "House of Sahibzada Ajit Singh"). Earlier Mohali was developed only till phase 7, the development of the later phases started in the late 1980’s. The recent Master Plan of Mohali has been extended up to 114 sectors. Mohali houses various companies like ICI Paints, Godrej Group, Dell, Quark, Philips, Sebiz Infotech etc. The city also boasts of housing Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, also called Mohali Stadium.
The stadium has an official seating capacity of 30,000 spectators. The major tourist’s attractions in and around Mohali are Angitha Sahib, Sukhna Lake (Chandigarh), Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Anandpur Sahib, Bhakra Nangal Dam etc.
According to the 2001 census Mohali had a population of 123,284.The region has a sub-tropical continental monsoon climate with hot summers, slightly cold winters, and unreliable rainfall.
