Established in August 1947, The Government Museum And Art Gallery is an art gallery situated in Sector 10 C of Chandigarh. Designed by Le Corbusier, The Government Museum and Art Gallery comprises of The National History Museum, The National Gallery of Portraits and The Chandigarh Architecture Museum in its premises. Curated by N.P.S. Randhawa, also the Director of the Museum and the Museum Advisory Committee, the museum has Gandhara Sculpture section, Indian Miniature Painting Section, Indian Contemporary Section, Manuscript Section, Evolution of Man Section and Dinosaurs Indian Section within its boundaries. With nearly 10,000 Indian artwork such as sculptures and paintings, The Government Museum and Art Gallery also has reference library, museum shops and cafeteria. One can visit the museum from 10 AM to 4:30 PM except on Mondays. The Government Museum And Art Gallery is the ultimate destination to gratify the unquenchable thirst for acquiring knowledge for the researchers and learners in the field of Indian history and legacy. Open for all, one need to shell Rs. 10 for individual entrance whilst for children entrance and free and for Senior citizen entrance charges is halved.
